September used to be the day when I remember starting school, it wasn’t until I moved to Kern County that August marked the beginning of a new year for me. It was always the week of Labor Day that I had the torturous early morning and new teachers. Now, Labor Day is just another three day weekend that sometimes offers some amazing department store sales. Since Labor Day was the only thing I could think of for September, and I couldn’t remember what it was, I decided to look up what Labor Day was. Labor Day “celebrates the economic and social contributions of workers.” This Labor Day, while you’re enjoying your day off, be thankful for your co-workers and the workers around you!
A big shout out to Klein, DeNatale, Goldner, for donating pedometers to all the attendees at the August luncheon! KDG employees are currently tracking their steps to see if they can walk enough to make the distance to Hawaii. How far can you go in a month’s time?
The Certified Paralegal Exam has changed as of September 2013. The CP exam will continue to consist of the Communication, Ethics, Judgment and Analytical Ability, Legal Research and Substantive Law sections, however, the Substantive Law section will only include questions from the American Legal System, Civil Litigation, Business Organizations and Contracts sections. The other substantive law sections are no longer available and all examinees will be taking the same test. For additional information, please visit NALA’s website (www.nala.org).
Planning for the Leadership Conference is nearly finished! We are making some final touches to the brochure and will be sending that out shortly, so watch your inboxes! Jennifer Rodges, CAPA Primary Representative, has taken the bull by the horns and got the ball rolling. Klein, DeNatale, Goldner has graciously offered to host the Leadership Conference and the following reception on November 2, 2013. We have a great group of speakers. We hope you’ll join us.
Michael Worthing, Esq., of Borton Petrini, LLP, will be presenting on Construction Defect Litigation and S.B. 800 on September 12, 2013 at the Petroleum Club. Make your reservation by September 10! September’s community affairs opportunity, KCPA is organizing a clothing drive to benefit Stella Hills Elementary School; bring donations of new or gently used clothing, jackets, coats, hoodies, (including new underwear, training bras, and socks) for elementary school-aged children to the September luncheon.
Have a wonderful September!
