November is an exciting month for KCPA! First off, I hope you all were able to sign up for the CAPA Leadership Conference. I’d like to thank the KCPA Board Members for all of their hard work in coordinating, planning, and getting the Leadership Conference to be successful! A special thanks goes out to Jennifer Rodges, ACP, CAS, for her dedication, planning and coordinating everything related to the Leadership Conference. She really jumped right in and took the bull by the horns to plan a successful conference. We couldn’t have done it without her! The Board would also like to thank the Sustaining Members and Sponsors who helped make the conference a success—everything that was donated was very much appreciated. You helped make our conference wonderful! Lastly, the Board would like to thank the speakers who volunteered their time to prepare and speak at the Leadership Conference. We wouldn’t have a Leadership Conference if it wasn’t for our speakers.
November 11, 2013 is Veterans Day, and I’d like to thank the veterans who are members of KCPA, and the spouses and family members of our members who have served. Thank you for your service!
Thanksgiving is November 28. What are you thankful for this year? Thanksgiving was originally based around the previous years’ harvest. Now, Thanksgiving is typically seen as a time to be thankful for the blessings we have in our lives and a time to spend with family. What are you thankful for this year? Personally, I’m thankful to be reasonably healthy, happy, my families, and my awesome job. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my families. Make sure to show those around you that you are thankful for having them in your life.
KCPA’s October Community Affairs event is providing Thanksgiving dinners to families who are in need and not receiving any public assistance. We also collected cash at our luncheon to provide gift cards to each of the recipients. We will be collecting names through November 8, 2013. Please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org with the name and address of a family with a brief description of why you are nominating them.
KCPA’s November Community Affairs event is collecting donations to benefit the Kern County Fire Department, enabling it to purchase Share Bears. Share Bears are carried by firefighters on Kern County fire engines and are given to children involved in traumatic events such as car accidents and fires. Donations can be made by mail or brought to the November 14, 2013 luncheon. If you have any questions, please contact me.
Social Media is becoming a hot topic in litigation. I’ve seen more discovery requests regarding social media postings recently. We’re excited to have David D. Blaine, Esq., SPHR, speak on Management of Employees in a Social Media World at noon on November 14, 2013 at the Petroleum Club. We hope you’ll join us at this very relevant and informative presentation by Mr. Blaine!
I was excited to find out that NALA is now offering CLE on the go. While NALA has had self-study CLE through their website, they now have an iPad app where you can access previously purchased NALA Campus Self-Study programs and Advanced Paralegal Certification programs.
I hope you have a wonderful November and a safe Thanksgiving, full of turkey, baking and family!
