January = everyone get back to work! Doesn’t it feel like there is a lull through December and then all of a sudden, it’s busy busy busy again?
December was a time of reflection for me, as it might be for some of you, as I tried to find items to include as part of my New Years Resolutions. As I was busy reflecting, I realized how thankful I am for the people in my life and that I wouldn’t be in the position I am now had I not had all the wonderful people in my life that I do. 2013 had a lot of ups and downs for me, so I’m glad to have 2014 as a new chapter, however, in light of all my “reflecting,” I realized there was one person who really is responsible for me being where I am today professionally, although I’m not sure she realizes it. If Jennifer Rodges had not seen something in me when I worked under her in 2005, I don’t know that I would still be in the legal profession, let alone a part of KCPA or a paralegal. I started out as a file clerk working with Jennifer in the PI Department in 2005. Jennifer has continually been a mentor to me since then. My New Years Resolution is to be a mentor to someone in 2014, and hopefully inspire them to stay in the legal field and strive to “move up the ranks.” What are your goals for 2014?
Speaking of goals, what would you like to see KCPA do for 2014? Please send any ideas to me at email@example.com.
Thank you to everyone who helped out with the luncheon this year, KCBA, our KCPA Board, our Holiday Luncheon co-chairs, Amber Brewer and Shontice Yates, and all of our wonderful donors! We had a great turnout and raised a little over $2,000 per charity! How amazing is that? Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this happen. Both CASA and Christmas for Seniors will benefit greatly. The Jamison Center table was also full of wonderful toys—thank you to everyone who brought a toy!
I’d like to formally announce that Sasha Gadberry of Klein, DeNatale, Goldner has been appointed as the Newsletter Editor for the remaining portion of the 2013-2014 year! Please join me in welcoming Sasha to the Board. If you have any submissions to the newsletter, send them her way!
I hope you all had a great holiday and are looking for to a successful 2014!
