March typically means it’s the beginning of springtime, but I think February is trying to compete with the weather we’ve been having! I have to admit—I like the ability to have fresh air coming through my house in the middle of winter—the weather has been beautiful!
With spring coming, that means it’s also time for spring cleaning. With that in mind, remember that our March Community Affairs event is collecting business clothing to benefit the Mission at Kern County for use in the Christian Life Training Program. Either bring your clothes to the next luncheon on March 13, 2014, at the Petroleum Club, or contact Michele Hill (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you’d like to donate!
We hope you’ll join us at the Petroleum Club on March 13, 2014 to hear E. Doug Jarvis from Esquire Deposition Solutions speak on Winning Litigation Technology. Please remember to make your reservations no later than 5:00 p.m. on March 11 as the Petroleum Club’s policies have changed. Any reservations after 5:00 p.m. on March 11 will be charged $35.00 rather than the regular price. The deadline to cancel your reservation is still 5:00 p.m. the Tuesday before the luncheon as well. If you have any questions regarding this change, please let me know!
It’s that time of year again! It’s almost the close of the KCPA year, which means three things:
- Paralegal of the Year nominations;
- Scholarship applications; and
- Elections for the new Board of Directors!
Please see page 11 for the Paralegal of the Year nomination form. Please submit the complete nomination to me no later than April 15, 2014.
Please see page 12 for the Jeannie D. Conner Scholarship application. This is a $250 scholarship that can be used toward an MCLE event, or multiple MCLE events. Again, these are due to me no later than April 15, 2014. This would be a great way to attend the CAPA conference!

The CAPA Conference is on June 28, 2014 in San Diego, California. San Diego Paralegal Association is making this an event you won’t want to miss with an evening gala on June 27, 2014, and an amazing line up of speakers. The annual educational conference is offering four different tracks this year: Litigation Support Institute, Corporate/Transaction Institute, Social Justice Institute, and Professional Development Institute. Each institute is comprised of 4 one-hour skill sessions designed to build upon each other and includes 1 hour of Ethics, however once all of the sessions are announced, you may choose to “jump” around into other institutes.
KCPA is offering one free admission to the CAPA Conference! The deadline to let us know why you’d like to attend and believe you deserve to receive this admission is March 31, 2014. Please send any requests to Jennifer Rodges and Makala Foster. Please see page 5 for more information.
As usual, your Board is also selling opportunity drawing tickets for the CAPA conference. This is one of the means where CAPA receives its funds to provide these educational conferences to you. You do not need to be present to win and each ticket costs $1. The prizes are at least $100 in value! You do not need to be present to win.
