November President’s Message

November is one of my favorite months, as you may already know, because it has
dedicated family time and, of course, it’s a lot cooler.  I love cooking and now that
it’s finally cooler it’s a lot more pleasant to get into the kitchen and warm up and make
some delicious comfort food.  What are you looking forward to the most this month?

We have Jason Lee of the Kern County Recorder’s Office speaking on November 13, 2014.  He’ll be instructing us on how to get our documents recorded, which is applicable across multiple practice areas—real estate, family law, probate, transactional and civil.  We hope you’ll join us on this informational discussion with Mr. Lee!  We’ll also be collecting cash for the Kern County Fire Department’s Share Bear program.  Share Bears are carried by firefighters on the Kern County fire engines and are given to children involved in traumatic events.  If you’d like to donate but are unable to make it to the luncheon, please contact Kristen Foster (communityaffiars@kcpaonline.org).

The Kern County Bar Association & Kern County Paralegal Association’s Holiday Luncheon will be held on December 11, 2014 at the Petroleum Club.  Reservations can be made through the KCBA’s website.  Opportunity drawing tickets can be purchased from any of your KCPA Board members.  The Board has been working hard to get great prizes this year for the opportunity drawing.  Proceeds from the drawing will be evenly split between the Kern County Bar Association’s Charitable Foundation and Bakersfield Christmas for Seniors.  We will again be collecting toys for the Jamison Center as well.  We hope to see you there!  If you have any questions, please feel to either contact me or our Holiday Luncheon Co-Chairs—Sasha Gadberry or Shontice Yates. We’ll also be looking for volunteers to help us during the luncheon—it’s a great way to get involved with KCPA—please contact me if you are interested in assisting us.

I’d like to thank everyone who participated in our survey regarding the luncheon location.  Our Board is looking into the suggestions you each made and we will  repot in our December newsletter.  Remember, this is your association and we are here to serve you, but sometimes we do need your help and input to help guide us.  We always value your input and discuss any issues at our monthly Board meetings.

CAPA’s 2015 Educational Conference—Bridge to the Future: Integrate, Innovate, and Motivate—will be held in San Jose on June 27, 2015.  What sessions or tracks would you like to see offered at the conference?

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with family time!
