How is everyone doing on their new years resolutions? My husband and I decided it was time to go back to the gym (after the wedding/honeymoon, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and being sick) and we’re already noticing there are less and less people there. So far, we’ve been able to stick to eating more veggies and going to the gym regularly. My goal of having a hard copy calendar of all the things we had planned has yet to come to full fruition, but I have yet to give up hope!
February has several holidays (court holidays included) that you might want to be aware of—President’s Day, Lincoln’s Birthday, and National Wear Red Day.
According to Wikipedia (the all-so-reliable source…), the first Friday in February is the America’s National Wear Red Day. The purpose of wearing red is to (1) show your support and (2) raise awareness of heart disease. According to Go Red for Women, heart disease is the number one killer of women—and, as many of our members are women, I just wanted to provide their website as a source of information. Go Red for Women provides a lot of helpful and interesting information regarding heart disease and how to live healthier (including, tips for reducing stress). Their website is: https://www.goredforwomen.org/. Check it out when you have some time.
February, while it is the third month of winter (who knew, with this weather?!), is the time of year when KCPA organizes a book and media drive to donate to the Bakersfield Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (“SPCA”) for their book sale held annually in the Spring. If you have any type of media that you’d like to donate, please contact Kristen Foster or Makala Reha.
CAPA is providing four lunch-time GOAL programs this year in March, May, and September. The GOAL program will lead into the November 2015 Leadership Conference hosted by SDPA and ICAP. We’ll be providing details soon, so keep an eye out! The purpose of the GOAL program is to provide you with information to become a better leader. Our goal is to provide you with 45 minutes of information during your lunch break. We are really excited about this program and we hope you plan on joining us!
