KCPA has been busy this year with its monthly meetings at The Petroleum Club. It has been nice to see the different faces at each meeting and the growth of our organization.
We are now accepting membership applications for our 2017/18 year, which will be our 30th year anniversary. If you know of someone who would benefit from joining KCPA please give them an application. We would love to have more people join us.
KCPA has been blessed with a wonderful executive board in 2016/17. It has been amazing to work together with the individuals from multiple firms throughout Kern County including, Klein, DeNatale, Goldner, LLP., Borton Petrini LLP., Wall, Wall & Peake, Tejon Ranch, and Swanson O’Dell. Thank you to all who have served this year and to the firms for their support of KCPA. Together, we’ve hosted some great MCLE meetings, raised money for our monthly community affairs projects and for the KCBA Charitable Foundation and Christmas for Seniors of Kern County, and raised the stature of our organization in our legal community.
As you are probably aware, May is the month in which we vote for our executive board for the next fiscal year followed by installation on June 8th. Several existing board members are not able to serve in the 2017/18 year. This means that there are openings for service in the areas of Director of Programs, Newsletter Editor, and Public Information Officer. Of course, if you would like to serve in one of the other positions, please submit your name to firstname.lastname@example.org or to me at email@example.com. We would love to have you join the board. We also lost our wonderful student representative, Viviana Flores, to a one year mission trip. Thanks to Vivian, we had a large increase in student members this year.
It is time to submit nominations for the KCPA Paralegal of the Year award, due May 5, 2017, and to apply for the Jeannie Conner Memorial Scholarship, due May 19, 2017. These awards will be presented at our June meeting.
Coming up in June, the California Alliance of Paralegal Associations (CAPA) will be holding its June Educational Conference in Visalia on June 24, 2017. KCPA is the host this year, together with the Fresno Paralegal Association and the San Diego Paralegal Association. Please go to firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. Special thanks to Erica Bjornstad, our KCPA CAPA representative, for all of her hard work and efforts in developing and implementing the conference. It is my hope that KCPA has a large contingent of its members at the conference. If you can’t attend, you can still support CAPA by purchasing an opportunity drawing ticket for $1.00, available at all of our general meetings through June 8th, or by contacting one of your board members.
Have a wonderful May.
